The Team

WHO ARE WE ?

KEN GALVIN :

With a history in Drag Racing dating back almost 40 years, Ken these days is best known for the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival, an event as successful as it is huge and a regular on many's event calenders each and every year. Involved in the early inception of the NDRC (now NZDRA), Ken held many roles and was an area steward for many years. Having raced all around the country himself and with 2 race cars currently in the shed, this venture and the future of Taupo Thunder Dragway is the culmination of a life long dream and an exciting new chapter in his life.

TONY BENNIS :

Tony will be our starter for the majority of season 2014/15, also highly involved with the track prep and keeping the racing surface nice and safe and sticky for all the competitors. With a long history in racing through various different vehicles Tony has acted in the Chief Starter role many times before and brings a cool head and experience to the role. With a new car in the build Tony will start to train a replacement during the year so that when his ride is ready there will be someone ready to step in and fill the spot.

SCOTT CAMPBELL:

Scott is our track prep specialist, bringing with him many years of experience in a similar role and that of track management at Fram Autolite Dragway. Not only the man that has built and sourced whats required for prepping a track, Scott is the man putting in the long hours before a meet on the tractor getting the surface up to the standard required by race day. His experience and knowledge is a huge asset to Taupo Thunder Dragway and a welcome addition to the team.

TRACEY SHERWIN:

With Tracey's father being the one and only Plank Sherwin, it seemed she had little choice - if she wanted to hang out with Dad - it was off to Champion Dragway on Sundays!  Now with over twenty years experience in various roles at all of the drag strips around the country bar Teretonga, Tracey will be in charge of Pit Control on race days at Taupo Thunder Dragway.  Tracey is very much looking forward to working with the members of Taupo Rod & Custom Club again - these guys and girls will make up most of the crash crew and pit runner positions on race day, and are a fantastic bunch of people.  Tracey's partner Richard McCarthy will also be campaigning their 'Plain Crazy' 27 T Roadster in the Supercharged Outlaw division - Trace is pretty keen for a go in the hot seat, but after five years off the track, will let Dickster have a season all to himself before she gets behind the wheel.
